2027: ADC Vows to Scrap Security Votes, Cut Government Waste if Elected

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has pledged to abolish opaque “security votes” and introduce sweeping reforms to curb government waste if elected in the 2027 general elections.

Unveiling its 25-page governance blueprint, The Orange Book, in Abuja on Tuesday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the proposals aim to strengthen accountability, reduce corruption, and redirect public funds toward improving citizens’ welfare.

Among the key measures is the abolition of single-line budgeting for security votes, with all security spending subjected to legislative oversight, approval, and audit.

The party also promised stricter controls on official travel, banning bloated delegations and the use of government assets for private purposes.

“The ADC shall promote fiscal discipline and transparency. All forms of looting of public resources will be treated as banditry,” the party declared.

Beyond expenditure controls, the ADC pledged to pursue a job-led, opportunity-driven economy, eliminate monopolies and cronyism, and align education policy with national productivity and technological advancement.

On governance, the party promised to uphold federal character, strengthen national unity, and ensure equal access to opportunities for youths, women, and persons with disabilities. Abdullahi accused the ruling APC of failing to provide effective leadership, alleging that Nigeria had been turned into a “Yoruba Nation” under its watch.

The ADC’s proposals come as opposition parties intensify preparations for 2027, with economic hardship, insecurity, and corruption expected to dominate the political agenda.
