20 Abducted Prospective NYSC Members Rescued In Imo
The Nigeria Police Force has rescued 20 prospective National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members abducted in Imo State on October 1, following six days of search-and-rescue operations.
The victims were rescued on Wednesday, October 7, at Amakohia Ubi village in Imo State, according to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anthony Iniedu, on Wednesday.
The police said the rescued victims had been taken for medical assessment and necessary care.
The prospective corps members were abducted on October 1, triggering a security operation involving the police and other security agencies to locate them and secure their release.
Although the victims have been recovered, the police said efforts were ongoing to apprehend those responsible for the abduction.
The Force said coordinated operations with sister security agencies would continue until all those involved in the crime were brought to justice.
The police also thanked members of the public for their cooperation and support during the rescue operation.
The development comes amid persistent security concerns over abductions and attacks in parts of Nigeria, with travellers and other vulnerable groups frequently exposed to kidnapping threats.
The police reiterated their commitment to protecting lives and property, responding promptly to security threats and strengthening cooperation with other security agencies.
