ZASCOSA inaugurates 10 committees ahead of November AGM, dinner

The National President of Zaria Secondary School Old Students Association (ZASCOSA), Esv. Dung Nehemiah Rwang, has inaugurated 10 sub-committees to drive the activities of the association and prepare for its forthcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Dinner Award Night scheduled for November 2026.

Rwang inaugurated the committees on Saturday, August 29, 2026, charging members to bring their wealth of experience and professional expertise to bear in discharging their respective responsibilities.

The committees cover key areas including members’ welfare and health, finance and fundraising, projects and development, membership and records, social activities, publicity and media, legal affairs, education and mentorship, business and investment, as well as diaspora engagement.

Rwang explains rationale for committees

Speaking during the inauguration, the ZASCOSA president said the nominees were carefully selected in consultation with their respective set chairmen or representatives.

He explained that the selection was based largely on the experience and professional backgrounds of the nominees, noting that their expertise would be valuable in achieving the objectives for which the various committees were established.

According to him, the constitution of the committees had become necessary in view of the association’s forthcoming AGM and Dinner Award Night in November.

He urged the members to demonstrate commitment and give their best in the various assignments entrusted to them.

Rwang stressed that the success of the committees would depend largely on their willingness to work together and translate their mandates into practical results.

Welfare committee to support members

The Welfare and Health Committee is expected to focus on the wellbeing of members, including visits to sick members, bereaved families and members who have welcomed new babies.

The committee will also support members facing financial difficulties, although the association clarified that cases would first be handled at the set level before being referred to the national committee.

Only critical cases that the affected set cannot handle would be referred to the committee.

The association further stated that beneficiaries must be confirmed as bonafide registered members who are financially up to date before assistance can be provided.

The committee will also organise health talks, medical outreaches and explore insurance arrangements for members.

The National Assistant Secretary will chair the committee, with Lami Pam, Juliana Ajumma Ukoyor, Pharm. Kandi Pam, Dr John Ali Reng, Onoja Adeyi Abraham, Dr Salome Peter and Rose Garos Shehu among its members. All set chairmen or their representatives will also serve on the committee.

Finance committee assigned fundraising role

The Finance and Fundraising Committee will be responsible for dues collection, levies, donations and other fundraising initiatives.

Its mandate also includes organising fundraisers, dinner events and raffle draws, as well as managing the association’s accounts and budget.

The committee will equally seek sponsorships and partnerships that can support ZASCOSA’s programmes and projects.

The National Financial Secretary will chair the committee, with Benley Dapiyah, Alexander Davou Gyang, Caroline Joshua and Kunle Lawal serving as members.

Projects committee to drive development

The Projects and Development Committee has been assigned the responsibility of identifying priority projects for the alma mater and supervising their implementation.

Among the projects listed are classroom blocks, boreholes, libraries and sports facilities.

The committee is also expected to liaise with the school management to identify areas requiring intervention and ensure that approved projects are properly executed.

Luther Shambor, a 1988 set member, will chair the committee, with Cosmos Damian-Nwoke, Anza Julius Peter, Gyang Monday Dawah and Zakari Uthman Muhammad as members.

Responding on behalf of the committee, Shambor appreciated the confidence reposed in them and promised that members would work collectively to deliver on their mandate.

Membership database to be strengthened

The Membership, Database and Records Committee will be responsible for maintaining an updated database of ZASCOSA members across the world.

Its duties include tracking members’ birthdays, contact information and locations, welcoming new members and helping to reintegrate members who have become inactive.

The committee will also monitor attendance at association meetings.

The National Secretary-General will chair the committee, while Abdul Lateef Lawal, Abdulrahman Galla, Esther Hwere Ching-yi and all set chairmen or their representatives will serve as members.

Socials committee prepares reunion activities

The Socials, Entertainment and Reunion Committee will coordinate the association’s annual reunion, dinner and other social gatherings.

It will also organise games, cultural activities and award programmes, while overseeing decorations, music, master of ceremonies arrangements and souvenirs.

The National Director of Socials will chair the committee, with Abigail Ajimasu, Chundung Paul, Hamza Aliyu Musa, Hauwa Bako, Brenda Bassi, Victor Samson Pam, Moses Mahanan, Martha Henry Miri, Jamba Jibson and Abubakar Mark Musa as members.

Media committee to strengthen publicity

The Publicity and Media Committee is expected to drive the association’s communication and public image.

Its responsibilities include managing ZASCOSA’s WhatsApp group and Facebook page, producing newsletters, covering events through photographs and videos, preparing press releases and congratulatory messages, and strengthening the association’s branding.

The National Publicity Secretary will chair the committee.

Members include Ameena Abdulsalam, Funmilayo Anjorin, Joshua Davou Shon, Lilian Gonji, Anthonia Nwandu, Gambo Abdullahi and Christy Davou Akpausoh, alongside all set chairmen or their representatives.

Legal committee to review constitution

The Legal and Constitution Review Committee will ensure that the association’s activities remain in line with its constitution.

It will also handle disputes among members, provide legal advice and review the association’s constitution where necessary.

The National Legal Adviser will chair the committee, with Samuel Dido, Esq., Matta Daniel, Esq., Cosmos Damian-Nwoke and Martha Henry Miri as members.

Education, mentorship committee gets scholarship role

The Education and Mentorship Committee will focus on academic support and mentorship for students of the alma mater.

Its responsibilities include providing scholarships for brilliant but indigent students, organising career talks and mentorship programmes, and supporting teachers and academic initiatives.

Prof. Makwin Danladi Makut, a 1985 set member, will chair the committee.

Other members are Yongme Dominic Gyang, Jonathan Rwang, Danladi Bature Danbwarang, Mary Adas Ndijidda and Mary Adamu, Esq.

Business committee to promote investments

The Business and Investment Committee will promote entrepreneurship and investment opportunities among ZASCOSA members.

It is also expected to create a business directory that will enable members to identify and connect with one another for business opportunities and partnerships.

The National Treasurer will chair the committee, with Solomon Chundusu, Esther Pokyes, Alh. Abbas Jimoh, Nanre Peace Samson and Yakubu Cabala as members.

Diaspora committee targets global alumni

The Diaspora Committee will coordinate engagement with ZASCOSA members living outside Nigeria.

Its responsibilities include mobilising donations for school projects, building international alumni networks, sharing job and business opportunities and providing mentorship to current students.

The committee will also help the school establish links with foreign partners, sponsors and educational exchange programmes.

It will equally maintain contact with alumni abroad and organise physical or virtual gatherings to strengthen their connection with the association.

Members of the committee are Ibrahim Ishola, Benjy and Dr Onoja Adeyi Abraham.

Members promise commitment

Speaking after their appointment, other committee members expressed appreciation for the confidence placed in them and pledged to work towards achieving the objectives of their respective committees.

Abdul Lateef Lawal, Danladi Bature Danbwarang, Lami Pam and Funmilayo Anjorin, among others, accepted the assignments with enthusiasm and expressed optimism that the committees would deliver on their mandates.

The inauguration marks another step in ZASCOSA’s efforts to strengthen its organisational structure and improve coordination among its members while expanding its contribution to the development of the alma mater.

The meeting ended with the formal inauguration of the committees and prayers led by the National President.

The development is expected to set the stage for preparations for the association’s November AGM and Dinner Award Night, while the various committees are expected to commence work towards delivering on their respective mandates.
