Zamfara: One Killed, 11 Rescued After Bandits’ Attack
One person was killed and 11 abducted travellers rescued after suspected bandits ambushed a trailer along the Gummi–Sokoto Road in Zamfara State on Tuesday morning.
The Zamfara State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement by its spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, noting that the attack occurred at about 10:30 a.m. when armed men opened fire on a vehicle carrying vegetables and passengers.
The gunfire caused the driver to lose control, veering off the road. The deceased was identified as Dan Fati Umar of Gidan Ganja, Bukuyum Local Government Area.
Another passenger sustained serious injuries and is receiving medical treatment.Police said several passengers were abducted during the assault, but a swift response by operatives and other security personnel led to the successful rescue of 11 victims, who have since been reunited with their families.
Commissioner of Police Ahmad Muhammad Bello extended condolences to the bereaved family and wished the injured victim a speedy recovery.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging residents to provide credible information to aid security operations against banditry.
