Witches, Wizards Hold Public Meeting in Nigeria; Speak On How To Fix Country

OSOGBO — For the first time, Nigeria’s Progressive Witches and Wizards Association stepped out of secrecy and into the open, holding its maiden anniversary meeting in Osogbo, Osun State.

NOP NIGERIA was not invited, however, reports on Phoenix showed that the gathering was hosted by renowned Ifa priest, Araba Ifayemi Elebuibon, at the Araba Castle in the heart of Osogbo, a city widely regarded as the cultural capital of Yoruba traditional religion.

Members, the report showed, dressed in traditional white attire filled the compound as chants and prayers marked the one-yearu anniversary of the group.

Addressing members, Chief Ifayemi Elebuibon charged the witches and wizards to seek deeper knowledge of themselves and to use their “natural powers” responsibly.

“Use your gifts to improve your individual fortune and help the country,” he told the gathering, according to reports from Phoenix Reporter who covered the event.

But the Araba’s message quickly shifted from empowerment to warning. He condemned the rising wave of killings across Nigeria and said the gods were angry.

“Eledumare is displeased with the shedding of the blood of innocent Nigerians for there is grave punishment for that,” Elebuibon declared.

“It is happening in the north and down south,” he added, pointing to the spate of banditry, cultism and ritual killings that have dominated headlines this year.

The Ifa priest directed his strongest words at political leaders and heads of security agencies, urging them to act urgently.

“Political leaders and heads of security agencies in Nigeria must work to put an end to this. If they fail to do that, the consequences will be too heavy for this country,” he warned.

Elebuibon also cautioned fellow traditionalists against engaging in human sacrifice, saying such acts would attract “imminent punishment” from the spiritual realm.

The coordinator of the Progressive Witches and Wizards Association, Oyelola Elebuibon, used the platform to challenge public perception of witchcraft.

“People have an erroneous idea of what witchcraft means,” Oyelola said. “Members of this group are good husbands, wives, and mothers, that would always work for the progress of their families and well-wishers.”

The association, Iyelola added, was formed to promote unity among traditional practitioners and to project a positive image of African spirituality, often demonized in mainstream discourse.

As the meeting ended with prayers for Nigeria, the message from Araba Castle was clear: spiritual leaders want a seat at the conversation on national security — and they say the cost of ignoring bloodshed will be heavy for the nation.
