Uzodinma Distances Self From Nwogwugwu’s Remarks, Reaffirms Davido as “His Son”

Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), Hope Uzodinma, has clarified his relationship with award-winning singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, amid political tensions ahead of the Osun State governorship election.

Uzodinma, who also chairs the APC Osun Governorship Campaign Council, stressed that Davido remains “his son” despite recent controversies.

He explained that he is not a registered voter in Osun but is participating in the electioneering process to support the APC candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji.

The governor’s clarification followed remarks credited to Ambrose Nwogwugwu, who criticised Davido after the singer appealed for a peaceful election.

Uzodinma distanced himself from those comments, stating he never authorised Nwogwugwu or anyone else to speak on his behalf.

“The comments are personal opinions and do not represent my position or that of the APC governorship campaign council,” Uzodinma said in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Oguwike Nwachuku.

Reaffirming his bond with Davido, Uzodinma added: “Davido remains my son. His coming to Osun for the exercise is solely because he is a committed member of the APC and not one of the voters in the state’s governorship election.”

He emphasised that the APC is committed to ensuring a peaceful, free, fair, and credible electoral process in Osun, noting that it is common in democratic systems for party leaders to campaign in states where they are not registered voters.

Uzodinma urged residents of Osun and the general public to disregard Nwogwugwu’s comments, saying the clarification was necessary to prevent any misunderstanding ahead of the August 15 poll.
