Police arrest 17 suspects, recover five motorcycles in Jigawa

The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested 17 suspects in separate operations across several local government areas of the state over alleged theft, shop breaking, cattle rustling, vandalism and other criminal activities.

The command disclosed this in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, SP Shiisu Lawan Adam, noting that the arrests followed credible intelligence, prompt response and effective investigations.

According to the statement, the operations were conducted in Malam Madori, Gwaram, Garki, Kiyawa, Taura, Birniwa, Dutse, Ringim, Miga, Kazaure and Roni local government areas.

Police said the operations led to the recovery of five motorcycles, five cows, two goats and one sheep, as well as nine Android smartphones and one keypad phone.

Other recovered items included 44 batteries, four SIM cards, a Lenovo laptop, a plasma television, a solar battery, a ceiling fan, cutting pliers, a ring spanner, two pairs of shoes and parts of vandalised school desks.

The command also said three suspects were arrested in connection with an armed robbery involving a Boxer motorcycle valued at N1.2 million, although the motorcycle had not yet been recovered.

It said investigations were ongoing to identify the owners of the recovered property and return the items to their rightful owners on bond, while efforts were also being made to recover the stolen motorcycle.

The statement listed the suspects as Usman Sale, Abubakar Aminu, Musa Sale, Abubakar Bashir, Yau Yahaya, Shaibu Muhammed, Anas Uba, Gali Ibrahim, Shafiu Ilyasu, Haruna Alhaji, Musa Haruna, Basiru Datti, Abdullahi Bello, Usman Adamu, Adamu Sani, Umar Wada and Salisu Nasiru.

The police said all the suspects had been arraigned before a court to face the law, while the armed robbery case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Dutse, for discreet investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, Jigawa State Command, CP Tijjani Murtala, reiterated the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing, surveillance and coordinated operations to prevent and dismantle criminal activities across the state.

CP Murtala warned criminals and their collaborators to desist from criminal activities, stressing that the command would ensure that offenders face the full weight of the law.
