US Lawmaker Sounds Alarm Over Attacks on Christians in Plateau

A United States Representative, Anna Paulina, has raised serious concerns over what she described as relentless attacks and killings of Christians in communities across Plateau State by Fulani ethnic militia terrorists and Islamist extremists.

In a statement shared on her verified X account on Friday under the title “What is happening in Nigeria right now?”, the lawmaker accused both the state and federal governments of failing to adequately protect Christians from the repeated assaults.

She said hundreds of Fulani ethnic militia terrorists had descended on Christian communities in Plateau, leaving thousands of civilians under mortal threat while the Nigerian Army and other security forces struggled to contain the situation.

Paulina outlined a series of violent incidents that preceded the latest attacks. A pastor and his church secretary were shot dead on their way to church.

Five Christians were ambushed in their vehicle. A civilian guard was killed outside his home, and a man and his son were beaten and left in critical condition.

She also highlighted the reported abduction of more than 100 people from Maburya village, noting that the victims remain missing.

The US representative further alleged that prior warnings and security alerts, including those issued by Truth Nigeria, were not taken seriously by security agencies, questioning why the attacks still occurred despite the alerts.

Paulina’s statement portrays escalating insecurity in parts of Plateau State, with civilians reportedly targeted in assaults near homes, roads and places of worship, and raises questions about the capacity of Nigerian security forces to prevent such violence and protect vulnerable communities.
