The United States has launched a new wave of air strikes against Iran after two American service members were killed and another went missing during Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks in Jordan, the US military said.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the strikes began at 6 pm ET on Saturday under orders from President Donald Trump.

“Today at 6 p.m. ET, US forces began launching new airstrikes against Iran at the Commander in Chief’s direction. The strikes are designed to further degrade Iran’s ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and swiftly punish Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces who launched attacks against American service members in Jordan last night,” CENTCOM said in a statement posted on X.

CENTCOM said two US service members were killed in action on July 17 as American and partner forces defended against Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks in Jordan.

The command also said one US service member remains missing.
