UK High Court Throws Out Mehul Choksi's Kidnapping Claim Over Unpaid Legal Costs

London’s High Court has struck out Mehul Choksi’s lawsuit alleging he was kidnapped in 2021, after he failed to pay £677,000 in required security for the defendants’ legal costs.

Mehul Choksi’s kidnapping lawsuit in London is over. On July 20, 2026, the High Court struck out his claim against all four defendants named in the case. Why? He didn’t pay the £677,000 he’d been ordered to put up as security for the other side’s legal costs, WIC News reported.

It doesn’t stop there. Choksi now has to pay those four defendants’ legal bills too. A court officer will go through the numbers and figure out what’s reasonable, using what’s called the standard basis.

Two other things happened alongside this. A hearing set for July 29 in front of Mansfield got scrapped. And a separate order, one that Justice Dexter Dias had made back in May, was set aside entirely.

Per WIC News, Mansfield wrote in his February 6 ruling that there was no direct evidence linking the defendants to what Choksi described. Instead, the case leaned on inference, mostly because the defendants happened to live in England and had flown to Antigua together around that time.

He went further too, noting how typical this is in conspiracy-style cases: heavy reliance on circumstantial pieces, with the actual conspiracy existing mostly as something people are asked to infer rather than something anyone actually witnessed.

As for Choksi himself, he’s still fighting extradition in Belgium, where authorities arrested him back in 2025. He’s also still pushing back against India’s decision to label him a fugitive economic offender.
