As reported by The Times of Israel on July 14, 2026, Iranian lawmaker Ahmad Bakhshayesh Ardestani said the time had come for Iran to develop a nuclear bomb, arguing that the country had already borne significant costs and endured years of conflict. Ardestani, a member of Iran’s parliament national security committee, stated, “I think the time has now come for Iran to build the nuclear bomb, because it has paid enough of the costs and fought its battles. Therefore, it now needs to build it.”

Speaking further, Ardestani commented on Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s recent visit to Oman. He described Muscat as Iran’s partner in matters relating to the Strait of Hormuz but claimed that the Gulf nation remained under the influence of the United States and Arab countries aligned with Washington. He suggested that Oman’s diplomatic engagement with Tehran should be viewed within that broader geopolitical context.

Ardestani added, “In reality, the United States speaks to us through Oman.” His remarks come amid continued regional tensions and ongoing diplomatic efforts involving Iran and several Gulf states.
