President Donald Trump has endorsed Darline Graham Nordone to run in the upcoming special election for her late brother, Lindsey Graham’s, Senate seat in South Carolina. Although Nordone has not publicly confirmed her candidacy, Trump’s support provides her with a significant advantage over other potential Republican candidates.

US President Donald Trump has thrown his support behind Darline Graham Nordone, sister of the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, urging her to run in next month’s special election for the South Carolina Senate seat her brother held for years. Nordone hasn’t publicly said whether she’ll run. Trump’s backing alone gives her a major head start over other Republicans already eyeing the seat.

The stakes go well beyond a single election cycle. Whoever wins in November will hold the seat until January 2033. Nordone is already serving in the Senate on a temporary basis, having been sworn in earlier this week to finish out her brother’s current term, which runs through January 3, 2027.

He went further, tying her potential candidacy directly to her brother’s legacy. “I hope Darline does this, in that there would be nobody better to honor the legacy of her beloved brother, Lindsey,” Trump wrote. He capped off the post with an enthusiastic show of support, calling Nordone “a WINNER all of her life” and writing, “should she accept, has my Complete and Total Endorsement in the Special Election for U.S. Senate in South Carolina — SHE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN. RUN, DARLINE, RUN!”

Nordone’s connection to her brother’s political career runs deep. She stood by his side through decades of campaigns and was widely regarded as his closest family member, since Graham never married and had no children.

According to Semafor, which first reported the story Friday, Nordone has indicated she’s now weighing whether to seek a full term rather than just finishing out her brother’s remaining months in office.

Trump’s endorsement carries real weight in this race. If Nordone decides to run, his backing could discourage other Republican candidates from mounting a serious challenge against her.
