Trump Claims Iran 'Desperate To Meet' For Talks, But US Has 'No Interest'

US President Donald Trump claimed Iran is “desperate” for talks but ruled out negotiations, warned of imminent heavy strikes on a nuclear-linked site.

United States President Donald Trump on Tuesday said that Iran wants to “desperately meet”, however, Washington has “no interest” in any kind of negotiations. Iran and the US have escalated attacks recently as their interim deal to end the war falls apart

“I will tell you, they want to desperately meet. And until they’re ready to meet in a meaningful way, we have no interest in meeting,” Trump told reporters at the White House.

He said that in dialogue behind the scenes, Iranian officials have said: “They want to meet desperately to try and end it, because they’re getting decimated.”

Trump also said that the US will be “hitting” Iran’s Pickaxe Mountain “pretty soon.”

“We don’t have it on record,” said Trump when asked if he believes that Iran has moved nuclear centrifuges into the site, located about a mile south of Natanz.

“It doesn’t mean anything unless they have the material. They don’t have — we follow the material, that’s where the action is… We’ll be hitting that area very probably pretty soon. And there’s not a thing they can do about it. You know, normally I wouldn’t say that. If I thought they could do something about it, I would never say that. But we’ll be hitting that area pretty soon, and very heavily,” Trump said.

Trump’s remarks come at a time when Iranian officials are meeting with mediators in Pakistan. Iran’s Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni met Pakistan’s army chief Asim Munir.

Momeni also met Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and according to reports Sharif expressed “deep concern over the recent escalation in the Gulf.”

He “urged all sides to exercise restraint and refrain from actions that could further destabilise the region,” a statement from his office reads. Pakistan would continue to play its role as an honest and sincere mediator, ge added.

Momeni expressed his “deep appreciation” for the prime minister and his team in their “untiring mediation efforts,” the statement added.
