Traumatic: How Lightning Strike Killed Mother, Two-Year-Old Daughter

A 31-year-old mother and her two-year-old daughter have died after they were struck by lightning while returning home in the United States.

The victims, identified as Kenya Glasgow and her daughter, Kennedy, were reportedly getting out of their vehicle when lightning struck them on Sunday afternoon.

According to police, emergency responders arrived at the scene after receiving a 911 call at about 2:30 p.m. and found the mother and child lying on a sidewalk.

Witness Prince Moody said he saw an orange glow through his window before rushing outside to help.

“Very traumatic scene,” Moody said, adding that he offered assistance, tried to calm the family and immediately called 911.

Kenya was taken to North Broward Medical Center, while her daughter was transported to Broward Health Medical Center. Despite efforts by first responders and medical personnel to revive them, both were pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospitals.

The children’s father, Kameron Glasgow, described his wife and daughter as “amazing, amazing people” while speaking about the devastating loss.

“My wife, the biggest heart in the world. The biggest heart in the world,” he said through tears.

Glasgow said Kenya was someone who consistently put others before herself and credited her with helping shape the man he had become.

“That was my hero next to my dad,” he said. “Because I wanted to show up for people how my wife does. She helped make me into the man I am today.”

He said the family had been preparing to go inside for dinner as the rain intensified when the tragedy occurred.

“We saw that the rain was picking up and we just said, ‘Hey. We need to get the girls inside,’” Glasgow recalled.

The couple’s surviving daughter is Kennedy’s twin sister, a reality Glasgow said would make the loss even harder to bear.

“It’s going to crush me when Kennedy’s twin sister asks about her sister and mother,” he said.

Glasgow described Kennedy as an energetic child who could sing every word of Benson Boone’s songs.

“It’s going to be tough to lose somebody that I’ve been with for half of my life,” he said. “It’s going to be tough. But I’ll be OK. I have to be because I have another beautiful daughter inside there.”
