Tinubu Approves New Army Battalion for Kwara to Boost Anti-Bandit Operations

• The new military formation will be located in Omu-Aran, Kwara State.

• Governor AbdulRazaq says the battalion will strengthen counter-terrorism and anti-kidnapping efforts.

• The state also commended the Army, ONSA, DSS and Police for ongoing security operations.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a new Nigerian Army battalion in Omu-Aran, Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, in a move aimed at strengthening security and intensifying the fight against banditry and other violent crimes.

The approval was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the Kwara State Governor, Mashood AbdulRafiu Agboola.

According to the statement, the new military formation will expand the presence of security personnel in the state and improve responses to emerging threats, particularly in areas affected by banditry, kidnapping and terrorism.

Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq described the development as another fulfilment of President Tinubu’s commitment to improving security across the country.

He also praised the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for promptly facilitating the state’s request for a stronger military presence.

“On behalf of the people and government of our state, I wholeheartedly thank Mr. President for yet another promise kept to the state. We are confident that the new battalion will greatly strengthen counter-terrorism and anti-kidnapping operations across various areas,” the governor said.

AbdulRazaq further acknowledged the support of the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies for their sustained efforts in tackling insecurity.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting coordinated security operations designed to eliminate criminal elements, secure communities and protect lives and property across the state.
