Three Nigerian kids win gold in international STEM Olympiad competition

Three Nigerian children have won gold medals at the International STEM Olympiad, emerging among the top performers in the global competition.

The winners are Chimdiebube Onwubiko, Don Anele Munachimso and Onyedikachi Egejurum.

Education technologist, Alex Onyia, announced the achievement in a post on X on Tuesday, describing it as a major milestone for Nigeria.

According to Onyia, Don Anele Munachimso won gold in Science and emerged as the world’s best in the category. He noted that Munachimso had earlier been recognised as Nigeria’s best performer in IGCSE Chemistry.

Onyia also said Onyedikachi Egejurum won gold and emerged as the world’s best in the Primary Mathematics category, while Chimdiebube Onwubiko also secured a gold medal in the competition.

“The investment is worth it,” Onyia wrote, adding that the feat marks “the beginning of greatness for the country.”

The achievement follows the conclusion of the International STEM Olympiad, which featured children from participating countries around the world.
