Nigeria’s entertainment industry has been plunged into grief after losing three of its notable stars within the space of just a few days, leaving fans, colleagues and admirers mourning a sudden and painful chapter in the nation’s cultural landscape.

NOP NIGERIA reports that the string of losses began with Iyun Janet Ajilore, popularly known as St Janet.

Her death was announced early on Sunday by publisher and socialite Otunba Femi Davies in a post on his social media handles.

According to Davies, St Janet died during a brief illness.

St Janet is a veteran Nigerian Juju and Highlife musician. She was widely celebrated for her electrifying live stage performances, bold personality, and socially unfiltered party tracks.

Fondly called the General Overseer of Saint Bottles Cathedral, she rose to mainstream fame with her controversial breakout project Faaji Plus, known for its raw, humorous, and socially expressive content.

Barely had the industry come to terms with St Janet’s death when popular Nollywood actress Temitope Osoba also passed away, deepening the grief across the entertainment industry.

Osoba’s death was announced on Wednesday by fellow actor Alesh Sanni in an emotional post shared on his Instagram page.

Expressing grief over the loss, Sanni said he had been unable to sleep since learning of the actress’ death, describing her as a dear sister with whom he shared memorable moments.

The actress was known for her roles in several Yoruba-language Nollywood productions and was regarded by colleagues as a talented performer.

Another heartbreaking news broke with the death of top Nollywood movie director, Dimbo Atiya.

His death was announced by Actor Mofe Duncan on a social media post.

Duncan wrote: “God no, not Dimbo. I’m devastated. One of the greatest minds of the entertainment industry.”

Atiya was renowned for his work on several acclaimed film and television productions, including Sons of the Caliphate, Halita, Still Falling, The Rishantes, The Plan and Dala Dala.
