Tears, Tributes As Eagle Online Publisher Dotun Oladipo Laid to Rest in Lagos

The late publisher of The Eagle Online, Oladotun Samson Oladipo, was laid to rest on Friday in Lagos, with family, friends and colleagues from Nigeria’s media industry gathering for his interment.

Oladipo, a former Political Editor of Punch Newspaper who went on to found The Eagle Online, died on August 25 at the age of 56, after feeling unwell.

His death was sudden, with no prior illness or incident reported before he passed, The Eagle Online reported.

At the service held at Stella Hall, Oregun, Ikeja, Pastor Solomon Akpande, preaching on the theme “Make your life count,” urged mourners to live with urgency and purpose, noting that “days are few and numbered.”

“Whatever good conduct anybody needs to do, such should be dispensed without procrastination,” Akpande said, according to The Eagle Online.

He called on the gathering to value humanity in leadership and daily life, and assured Oladipo’s family that they had not been forsaken. “God would not forsake them,” he said, adding that the fruits of Oladipo’s labour would continue to work for his family.

Family members, friends and colleagues also paid tribute to Oladipo’s humility, kindness and diligence during the service.

Oladipo was president of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers from 2017 to 2021 and a member of the Nigerian Guild of Editors.

His death drew condolences from President Bola Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, among others.
