The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has accused Ikeja Electric (IKEDC) of wrongly blaming it for current Band A outages, insisting the blackouts stem from low technology and the DisCo’s personal community issues.

In an announcement signed by its administration on Friday, TCN stated IKEDC’s 5 November public discover attributed Band A feeder outages on 3 and 4 November to “grid instability” and named TCN as accountable. TCN known as that attribution “inaccurate and misleading.”

The firm argued that figuring out the foundation reason behind grid disruptions just isn’t DisCo’s job.

Citing Section 67 of the Electricity Act 2023, the transmission firm stated the accountability lies completely with the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO), which it stated has made no discovering blaming TCN.

The firm pointed to NISO’s 5 November clarification, which blamed the drop in technology on gasoline provide constraints at thermal crops and decreased hydropower output from decrease reservoir inflows.

This shrank the power allotted to DisCos, resulting in fewer hours of provide and extra load shedding.

“TCN can only transmit the energy made available to it and cannot transmit energy that is not generated,” the assertion stated.

TCN additionally cited its information for feeders supplying IKEDC. Of interruptions on 1 and a couple of November, 68 per cent have been frequency-control load shedding attributable to low technology. Another 26 per cent have been resulting from IKEDC’s non-compliance with load allocation by NISO’s National Control Centre, or to faults and work by itself community. The remaining 6 per cent have been TCN deliberate upkeep, switching or a line limitation.

All these it stated was not a TCN tools fault or journey.

On the 33kV feeders named in IKEDC’s discover, TCN recorded 46 interruptions. Twenty-nine have been load shedding, 14 have been charged to IKEDC (9 for non-compliance with allocation, 5 for faults by itself community), and three have been scheduled TCN upkeep on the Ogba–Alimosho line on 1 November.

TCN stated a cable fault on IKEDC’s community interrupted the Rack Centre feeder on 2 November, and that IKEDC’s personal discover assigns MTN, Iju Water Works and Rack Centre to the DisCo for 33kV faults.

TCN urged IKEDC and different DisCos to “desist forthwith” from making unfounded claims, and to speak primarily based on verified data from NISO. It additionally requested prospects to depend on NISO’s official platforms for updates on the grid.

TCN sympathised with prospects affected by decreased provide and stated it stays dedicated to transmitting all accessible power inside prevailing constraints.
