Task force arrests 20 illegal miners in Taraba

The Anti-Illegal Mining Task Force weekend arrested 20 suspected illegal miners in Taraba state.

The chairman of the task force, SP Emmanuel Jamu, said while acting on credible intelligence, the operatives apprehended the suspects when  they were proceeding to an illegal mining site located in Taraba state.

“Under my watch, our operatives has successfully intercepted and arrested 20 suspected illegal miners.

“They were arrested following a credible intelligence while they were proceeding to an illegal mining site,” he said.

He highlighted that preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were from Zamfara state.

He added that they traveled to Taraba to carry out unauthorized mining operations within the state.

He confirmed that the suspects are currently in custody and will be handed over to the Taraba state Police command for further investigation and possible prosecution.

He added that the items recovered from the suspects are being documented as part of the ongoing investigation.
