South-east security: Concerns over Bright’s safety deepens

As a result of security situations in the South-eastern part of Nigeria, relations of Anyalebechi Ekene Bright from Umuagbara Isikwe Achi in Oji river local government area of Enugu state have expressed concerns over his safety.

Bright, who is a member of Igbo unions loyal to separatist leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, was said to have been receiving threats from security agents over his alleged link with separatist agitators who have been declaring sit-at-home orders in the region’s five states.

Youths of the affected states, especially sympathisers of separatist groups, have been targets of arrests, threats, killing and destruction of private homes and business premises by security forces.

The representative of the family, Eziefula Chikadibia Johnpaul, cousin of Bright based in Terra Annex, Sango Tedo Ajah, Lagos, Lagos, Eti-Osa local government area, Lagos state, in an affidavit obtained from the Customary Court of Appeal, Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), established this fact, this medium found.

According to Johnpaul in the affidavit, “Bright who is in Netherland, now went there because of his safety, due to protests and sit at home order proscribed [announced] by [separatist] Igbo unions.”

He alleged that as a result of Bright’s loyalty to the separatist course, “upon the arrest of our nation leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the government went about killing innocent and harmless citizens in guise to intimidate us.”

He alleged further that, “Most of our family friends and close relatives were killed, serving life sentences amongst many others.”

Johnpaul therefore expressed fear that Bright’s life “is no[t] safe in Nigeria,” because he had been receiving “threats to life from unknown persons,” which was why he fled Nigeria.
