Vice-Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the 2027 election, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, has said that former governors Ibrahim Shekarau and Abdullahi Ganduje, along with incumbent Governor Abba Yusuf, are politically finished in Kano State.

Speaking during the News Agency of Nigeria Personality Interview Series in Abuja on Sunday, Kwankwaso reflected on the fate of former allies who broke away from his political camp, insisting that “treachery” never sustains political success.

He specifically pointed to Ganduje, his former deputy and successor, noting that the ex-governor’s political decline began the moment he abandoned the structure they built together.

Kwankwaso argued that Ganduje could have commanded greater respect had he remained loyal to the movement.

On Governor Abba Yusuf, Kwankwaso accused him of distancing himself from the political group that secured his victory, warning that such moves have already created difficulties for his administration.

He alleged Yusuf was attempting to supplant him as Kano’s dominant political figure, a move he described as unsustainable.

Kwankwaso also recalled a conversation with President Bola Tinubu, where he highlighted how several of Tinubu’s former associates had faded from political relevance, citing examples like former Lagos Deputy Governor Kofoworola Bucknor-Akerele and ex-Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.

Despite the tensions, Kwankwaso acknowledged that political relationships are often transient, likening them to school friendships that sometimes endure despite differences.

He singled out former Osun Governor Bisi Akande as one of the few political allies he still regards as a friend.
