Shehu Sani: Tinubu Prioritizes Nigeria’s Future Over Political Popularity

Former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani, has said President Bola Tinubu is more focused on Nigeria’s long-term future than on preserving his political goodwill.

Speaking on TVC’s This Morning programme during a discussion on the “State of the Nation Ahead of the 2027 Elections,” Sani argued that Tinubu’s approach differs from past leaders who often avoided decisive reforms to maintain popularity.

He stated: “This is the first time we have a President who is ready to take the bull by the horn by implementing policies that could sweep power under his feet. It’s clear that he is more interested in the future of this country than his own political peace.”

Sani acknowledged that Tinubu’s reforms have been painful and unpopular, sparking resistance across the country.

However, he compared Nigeria’s current situation to nations such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Brazil, Thailand, and South Korea, which advanced after leaders took bold, sometimes unpopular decisions.

According to him, while the reforms may come with sacrifice, they hold the potential for far-reaching benefits that could secure Nigeria’s future.
