SERAP calls for names, fee information of N50,000 aid beneficiaries
The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has requested the federal authorities to reveal particulars of the funding, implementation and administration of its N50,000 National Emergency Relief and Stabilisation Intervention (NERSI), together with beneficiaries, fee preparations and safeguards towards political interference.
SERAP made the demand in a Freedom of Information request dated November 7, 2026, and signed by its deputy director, Kolawole Oluwadare and addressed to the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr Bernard Doro.
The organisation requested the federal government to reveal budgetary allocation, funds launched and expended, eligibility standards, beneficiary verification processes, geographical distribution and whether or not the help can be a one-off or month-to-month fee.
It additionally demanded disclosure of agreements with digital monetary service suppliers, together with ALAT, MoMo PSB, NairaGram, OPay and Moniepoint, their respective roles, charges and efficiency.
SERAP expressed concern over experiences that some beneficiaries who acquired notifications of the help might neither entry nor withdraw the cash whereas others had been informed they had been ineligible.
It urged the ministry to analyze the complaints and guarantee eligible beneficiaries obtain their funds.
The organisation additionally referred to as on the minister to ask the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to watch the programme, examine corruption allegations and guarantee accountability.
Warning towards political manipulation forward of the 2027 common elections, SERAP mentioned: “Publicly funded social assistance must be allocated strictly on the basis of genuine need and objective eligibility criteria. It must not be used to reward political supporters, secure partisan loyalty, finance political mobilisation or influence the electoral choices of vulnerable Nigerians.”
