Police track killers of Kwara farmer found hacked to death

The Kwara State Police Command has begun a homicide investigation into the assassination of Azeez Garba, a farmer from the state’s Isin Local Government Area.

The Commissioner of Police, Ojo Adekimi, has asked the State Criminal Investigation Department to immediately take over the matter and use all available investigative and intelligence resources to find and apprehend those responsible for the murder.

Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the Police Public Relations Officer, issued a statement on Tuesday that included the directive.

Adekimi described the killing as “cruel, senseless, and unacceptable,” and assured residents that the command would do all possible to bring the murderers to justice.

According to the statement, “The Commissioner of Police has ordered a comprehensive and discreet investigation into the gruesome murder of a farmer, Mr Azeez Garba, whose lifeless body was discovered on his farmland along the Owa-Onire axis, the boundary between Isanlu-Isin and Owu-Isin in the Isin Local Government Area of Kwara State.”

According to the police, preliminary findings indicated that Garba left home for his farm but did not return, prompting a search by family members and local vigilantes.

“His motorcycle was later found parked on the farm, while his lifeless body was discovered a short distance away with deep machete wounds,” the statement continued.

The command stated that no arrests had been made, but informed the deceased’s family and the public that investigators were pursuing every available lead.

“Investigators are working assiduously to unravel the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident and ensure that all those connected with this heinous crime are identified and brought to justice,” the statement stated.

The development comes days after the deceased’s relatives urged security services to investigate the crime and prosecute those involved.

Abdulazeez Rofiat, the deceased’s second daughter, told PUNCH Metro that her father left home for his cocoa farm and never returned. She said local hunters discovered his death in a neighboring woods after spotting his motorcycle on the farm.

“We want those guilty of this awful act to be discovered, arrested, and prosecuted in accordance with the law. My father deserves justice, and our family needs answers. We’ll continue to seek justice until those responsible are held accountable,” she said.
