Operatives of the Lagos state Police command have arrested a 22-year-old suspect, identified as Olamide Suleiman, during a routine stop-and-search operation in the Aguda area of Lagos, recovering firearms and substances suspected to be Indian hemp.
This was contained in statement by the command’s spokesperson, SP, Abimbola Adebisi, and the arrest was made along Adetola Road, Aguda, when police officers intercepted the suspect for a routine search.
During the operation, officers reportedly recovered dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp. A further search of the suspect’s bag led to the discovery of a locally made pistol loaded with one live cartridge.
She said the suspect confessed during interrogation that the pistol belonged to an alleged accomplice identified simply as Emir, who was reportedly staying at a hotel in Aguda.
Acting on the intelligence, operatives stormed the hotel and conducted a search of the room allegedly occupied by the suspect. The operation resulted in the recovery of a double-barrel gun. However, the principal suspect escaped before the arrival of the police.
The Lagos state Police Command said investigations are ongoing, while efforts have been intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspect and dismantle the criminal gang.
