Police: PCRC Zone 6, Cross River committee get new executive

The National Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Alhaji Mogaji Olaniyan, and members of the national delegation have successfully comducted elections to elect new executive for the Zone 6 PCRC and the Cross River State PCRC Executive Council to steer the affairs of their respective councils for the next four years.

A press statement by the Zonal Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Zone 6, DSP Jefferson Osupe, on behalf of the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 6 Headquarters, Calabar, noted that the exercise reflected the PCRC’s unwavering commitment to strengthening community policing and sustaining the vision and objectives of the Committee, which has remained a vital partner of the Nigeria Police Force for over four decades.

The Committee continues to promote peaceful coexistence between the Police and the communities they serve while fostering mutual trust, cooperation, and public safety.

Upon arrival at the Zonal Headquarters, the national chairman and his delegation were warmly received by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Zonal Operations, who represented the AIG, Zone 6, Calabar, who was unavoidably absent.

In the welcome remarks, the Deputy Commissioner of Police conveyed the warm regards of the Assistant Inspector General of Police and commended the PCRC for its unwavering support to the Nigeria Police Force.

He particularly applauded the Committee’s commitment to the Safe School Initiative and other community-based security interventions aimed at promoting a safer environment for educational institutions.

He wished the delegates a successful election and a safe journey back to their respective destinations.

The election was conducted in a peaceful, transparent, free, and credible atmosphere, with members demonstrating exemplary conduct throughout the process. Addressing the gathering, the national chairman emphasised that service in the PCRC is a call to national service and humanity. He urged all elected officials to uphold the ideals of the Committee, remain committed to community service, and continue to support the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in advancing public safety.

He further charged the newly elected state chairman to provide effective leadership by closely supervising Area Command and Divisional PCRC Chairmen to ensure the successful implementation of the Safe School Initiative across all schools within their respective jurisdictions.

At the conclusion of the electoral process, High Chief Spokesman Agogo emerged as Zonal Chairman of the PCRC, Zone 6; while Prof. Otu Archibong was elected as the Cross River State PCRC chairman.

The new executives subsequently took the oath of allegiance and oath of office, after which the newly elected Zonal Chairman, High Chief Spokesman Agogo, delivered a vote of appreciation, expressing gratitude to members for the confidence reposed in the new leadership and pledging to build on the achievements of the Committee.

As part of the event, awards of commendation were presented to distinguished individuals in recognition of their exceptional leadership and unwavering support for the activities of the PCRC. Recipients included the National Chairman, Alhaji Mogaji Ibraheem Olaniyan; the South-South Vice Chairman of the PCRC, Deacon Kenneth Otuonunyo; the National Patron of the PCRC, Chief Ubong Sam; and the Zonal Patron, Elder Ini Umoren.

The PPRO  Zone 6, DSP Osupe, was also honoured in recognition of his sustained commitment and support to the activities of the PCRC within the Zone; even as he was decorated with the emblem of the PCRC as a mark of appreciation for his contributions.
