Police Handcuffed My Uncle And He Was Saying There’s Nothing Wrong; I Said, ‘Why Do You Say So?’ -Obi

During an interview on Advocacy for Good Governance on Monday, July 20, 2026, Peter Obi, the NDC presidential candidate, responded to questions about his claims regarding intimidation, using a personal experience involving one of his relatives to illustrate his point.

Speaking in a video posted on Advocacy for Good Governance, Obi recalled an incident in which his uncle was handcuffed by the police but insisted that nothing was wrong despite the obvious circumstances. He said the experience showed how people sometimes deny realities that are plainly visible.

According to him, “I once had an uncle that they handcuffed; police handcuffed him, and people were asking him, ‘Is anything wrong?’ He said there’s nothing wrong. And I said, ‘Uncle, why do you say that?’ People can see his hand in handcuffs, and they ask him, ‘Is anything wrong?’ People can see what I’m saying. And I’m still asking for clarification. It’s all over the place.”
