The Ondo State Police Command arrested four officers captured in a viral video allegedly attempting to extort a motorist and making ethnic remarks.

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested four police officers captured in a viral video allegedly attempting to extort a motorist and making ethnic remarks along the Lagos-Benin Expressway.

The incident, which sparked widespread outrage on social media, showed one of the officers allegedly threatening to slap and detain the motorist if he was of Igbo ethnicity, prompting calls for disciplinary action.

Confirming the development on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ondo State, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the officers had been identified and taken into custody.

According to him, the officers are ASP Elomore Sodayo, Inspector Adefila Adewale, Inspector Olorunfemi Opeyemi and Inspector Odusola Peter.

Jimoh disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, had ordered a comprehensive investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the level of culpability of each officer involved.

He assured members of the public that the command remained committed to professionalism, accountability and upholding the rights of all citizens.

The command urged residents to remain calm while the investigation continues, promising that appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken in line with the outcome of the probe.
