Osun group demands explanation on materials, construction methods of cracked flyover

The National Citizens’ Advocacy Forum (NCAF) has demanded clear technical explanations regarding the materials, methods, compaction procedures, and quality-control tests utilised, alongside the specific measures implemented to guarantee the cracked Lameco flyover’s long-term stability and durability in Osun state.

The forum challenged the Osun state Ministry of Works to provide the information, wondering why a newly constructed flyover would have structural defects.

It raised serious concerns regarding structural defects and cracks reportedly observed on the newly constructed Lameco flyover in Osogbo, insisting that an explanation must be given.

In a statement released by Abiola Olawale, the Civil Engineer and Director of Operations at NCAF, the forum noted that it has formally petitioned the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE). The group also  called for an independent and comprehensive technical assessment of the infrastructure project.

NCAF urged the regulatory bodies to thoroughly examine the project’s design, construction methods, materials used, quality-control procedures, supervision, and certification processes.

The forum also called for a review of the administrative and supervisory roles played by senior officials in the Osun State Ministry of Works, specifically recommending independent scrutiny of the permanent secretary, Bashiru Bello, and the director of Highways, Moruf Ojebode. NCAF added that the call was driven by a demand for transparency, accountability and due process, rather than a presumption of guilt.

NCAF said reports of soil settling and uneven compaction along sections of the flyover’s ramp raise urgent questions that require clarification by qualified professionals.
