Osun Election: APM, PDP Candidates Step Down for Adeleke

Two candidates in the Osun State governorship election have stepped down and declared support for incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke.Adebayo Adewale of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) announced his withdrawal at a press conference on Thursday, citing “deep reflection and extensive consultation” with party leaders and stakeholders. 

He stressed that his decision was not driven by pressure or personal ambition but by a desire to prioritize Osun’s future.

“This decision is not born out of pressure or personal interest; rather, it is a conscious choice to place the interest of Osun above personal ambition,” Adewale said.

He urged his supporters and members of the APM to rally behind Adeleke, adding that the governor deserved another term to consolidate his administration’s achievements.

Similarly, Adedamola Adebayo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, also stepped down and endorsed Adeleke during a briefing in Osogbo.

“I hereby endorse His Excellency, Senator Ademola Adeleke ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election,” he declared, encouraging PDP members and supporters to unite behind the governor.

Both withdrawals come just hours before the election, strengthening Adeleke’s position as he seeks re-election on the Accord Party platform. Other contenders include Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
