Opposition Heavyweights Converge in Abuja for Summit

Prominent opposition figures, including former Cross River State Governor and Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) presidential candidate Donald Duke, Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate Adewale Adebayo, and former Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu, arrived at the Shehu Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja on Monday for a high-stakes Summit of Opposition Political Parties.

The gathering, organised by the political pressure group G-100, seeks to build a coordinated opposition front capable of challenging President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress in the 2027 presidential election.

Also present were Lawal Daura, vice-presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement; Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, National Chairman of the PRP; Usman Bugaje, SDP vice-presidential candidate; Fred Agbedi, Minority Leader of the House of Representatives; G-100 Convener Salihu Lukman; and Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress.

In his welcome address, Lukman called on opposition parties to set aside internal differences and prioritise Nigeria’s collective interest over individual party ambitions.

“We are not asking any political party to dissolve. Let us agree that we must build the table before negotiating the seats,” he said.Further details from the summit are expected later.
