Obafemi Hamzat: Tinubu Left Choice of Running Mate to Lagos APC

Obafemi Hamzat, Deputy Governor of Lagos State and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the 2027 election, has revealed that President Bola Tinubu delegated the selection of his running mate to the Lagos State chapter of the APC.  

Hamzat disclosed this on Thursday during the public presentation of the book Who Is She?, authored by Damilola James, who was selected as his running mate.

He noted that the president agreed the position should go to a young woman and left the final decision to the state party leadership.

The deputy governor said he did not even have Damilola James’ phone number before the party chose her, underscoring that the selection was entirely a party process rather than a personal arrangement.

 This development comes after President Tinubu endorsed Hamzat as the APC’s consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 poll, building on earlier backing from Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Lagos APC Governance Advisory Council (GAC).

The move aims to ensure continuity and unity within the party in Lagos State.
