In a statement shared on her verified X account on Friday, Okwu-Kanu said she was compelled to respond after noticing what she described as unverified reports circulating online.

“For the avoidance of doubt, I have not filed for divorce. The publication is entirely false and should be treated as misinformation,” she stated.

She expressed disappointment over the spread of what she described as fabricated stories about her family without proper verification, warning that such reports undermine responsible journalism.

Okwu-Kanu urged members of the public to rely only on information released directly by her or through her authorised representatives, while appreciating those who contacted her to verify the claim before sharing it.

She has been married to Nnamdi Kanu since 2009.

Kanu is currently serving a life sentence at the Sokoto Custodial Centre after he was convicted on terrorism-related charges by the Federal High Court in Abuja in November 2025.

Following his conviction, the IPOB leader filed an appeal before the Court of Appeal, seeking to overturn the judgment.
