‘Nigerian Economy has Stabilised, I Haven’t Borrowed a Dime’ – Soludo

Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State has declared that his administration has not borrowed any money since he assumed office, stressing that prudent resource management can drive development without accumulating debt.

Speaking on Monday at the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit, the former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor expressed optimism about Nigeria’s economic outlook, noting that the country’s economy has stabilised and is gradually recovering.

“Nigeria has stabilised and is on the rise. I haven’t borrowed a dime since I became governor,” Soludo said.

He maintained that state governments can achieve meaningful development through disciplined financial management rather than excessive borrowing.

Soludo also urged Nigerians to patronise locally made products, warning that dependence on imported goods continues to hinder job creation and industrial growth.

“We cannot create the kind of jobs we want with all of us using foreign or imported goods,” he said, adding that even influential Nigerians still rely heavily on foreign-made items.

The governor estimated that if Nigeria’s population embraced locally manufactured goods, particularly clothing and textiles, millions of jobs could be created.

“If all 247 million Nigerians wear only made-in-Nigeria, more than 10 million jobs will be created,” he stated.

He reiterated his support for local industries, emphasising that increased patronage of Nigerian-made products would boost production, create employment opportunities, and strengthen the economy.
