Nigeria Won’t Collapse if we Send South African Businesses Away – Sen. Umeh

Senator Victor Umeh of Anambra Central has declared that Nigeria would remain strong even if South Africans and their businesses were expelled from the country.

Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television program, Umeh argued that Nigerians are capable of handling the services currently provided by South African companies. His comments followed renewed xenophobic attacks in South Africa, where Nigerians have been killed and their businesses looted.

“We can send them away from here, even their business, who cares? It’s not like Nigeria will collapse if they go, we will never collapse,” he said.

Umeh criticized South Africa’s treatment of foreigners, warning that such hostility undermines nation-building. He noted that discouraging people from visiting South Africa would eventually harm its own economy.

He further stressed that Nigeria has the capacity to replicate South African ventures, citing past efforts in digital satellite technology. “If Nigeria takes it as a priority, it will be able to create all those opportunities. Nigeria has also advanced in digital technology. We can bring these things about,” he added.
