Nigeria Crushes Côte d’Ivoire To Stay Unbeaten At 2026 AFCON Zone 3 Volleyball Qualifiers

Nigeria’s men’s volleyball team maintained their impressive form at the 2026 African Nations Cup (AFCON) Zone 3 Qualifiers on Wednesday, overpowering hosts Côte d’Ivoire 3-0 to record a second consecutive victory and strengthen their qualification hopes.

The Nigerian side on Wednesday produced a disciplined display to silence the home supporters, cruising to a straight-sets win of 25-16, 25-20, 25-19 in one of their most convincing performances of the tournament.

Having opened their campaign with victory over Niger Republic, the latest triumph leaves Nigeria unbeaten after two matches and firmly on course for a place at the continental championship.

Head coach Taiwo Oladipupo hailed his players for rising to the occasion against the host nation, describing the result as a major confidence booster.

“I’m very, very happy. Beating the host nation is never an easy task, especially in front of their home fans. But we showed that we are capable of doing it, and we proved it on the court with a convincing victory,” Oladipupo said.

The coach also credited the team’s strong start to faith, unity and determination.

“First of all, we thank God for everything. Our success is not just about strength or power. We believe that when God is on your side, there’s no reason to be afraid. That’s the spirit we’ve carried into every match, and by God’s grace, we’ll keep winning,” he added.

Despite his confidence, Oladipupo insisted his side would not underestimate their next opponents.

“Watch out for our next match. We respect every opponent, but we’re confident in our team. Our objective is clear we’ll go out there to win for our country,” he said.

With two victories from two matches and only one set conceded in the tournament, Nigeria have emerged as one of the strongest contenders in the Zone 3 qualifiers, underlining their determination to return to the African Nations Cup.
