NDLEA arrests couple, uncovers drug warehouse in Edo

‎A husband and wife have been arrested by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Edo state after a raid on an alleged drug warehouse along Sapele Road in Benin City, where over 412 kilograms of suspected illicit drugs were recovered.

‎The suspects, identified as Christian Chukwuka, 32, and his wife, Nwanneka Christian, 33, both natives of Ndokwa in Delta state, were apprehended following a credible intelligence-led operation carried out by the Edo State Command of the agency.

‎The state Commander of the NDLEA, Commander of Narcotics Mitchell Ofoyeju, who disclosed this in a statement, said the operation resulted in the recovery of 22 bags of suspected skunk cannabis weighing 219.5 kilograms and compressed blocks of Canadian Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, weighing 192.67 kilograms.

‎Ofoyeju said the suspects allegedly used the residential building as a warehouse for the storage and distribution of narcotic substances.

‎According to him, the successful operation underscores the command’s determination to dismantle drug trafficking networks operating within the State.
‎
‎”The arrest and seizure reflect the growing concern over drug trafficking and abuse. The suspects were apprehended at the warehouse where they allegedly engaged in the illicit drug business,” he stated.
‎
‎The statement quoted one of the suspects, Christian Chukwuka, as  attributing his involvement in drug trafficking to unemployment and financial hardship.
‎
‎”My wife and I have a set of twins, and the burden of taking care of my family became overwhelming. If given another chance, I will never engage in drug trafficking again,” Christian reportedly said.
‎
‎The NDLEA commander said investigations into the case were ongoing, adding that the suspects would be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.
