‘My Brother Won’t Accept Tinubu’s Appointment’ – Isaac Fayose

Isaac Fayose has declared that his elder brother, former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, is unlikely to accept his appointment as Chairman of the Board of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), describing the position as unbefitting of the former governor’s political profile.

Reacting on Tuesday to the appointment approved by President Bola Tinubu, Isaac dismissed the offer in a post on his Facebook page, insisting that his brother would not take what he termed a “yeye appointment.”

“My brother won’t take the yeye appointment… E lo fi okan bale,” he wrote.

The businessman had earlier criticised the appointment in a video circulated on social media, arguing that a politician of Ayodele Fayose’s experience deserved a more influential position in the Federal Government.

According to him, the former Ekiti governor should have been considered for a ministerial or ambassadorial appointment rather than being named chairman of a federal agency.

“They said they made my brother chairman of a parastatal. They didn’t make him a minister or an ambassador,” Isaac said.

He also compared Fayose’s appointment with that of former presidential aide Reno Omokri, claiming the latter was offered an ambassadorial role.

“Even Reno Omokri got an ambassadorial appointment. Why then should my brother be limited to heading a parastatal?” he queried.

Isaac further alleged that the appointment may have been influenced by the recent visit of Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, to his residence, although he offered no evidence to support the claim.

He maintained that the REA board chairmanship did not reflect his brother’s political status and suggested that the former governor could hand over the appointment to one of his children if necessary.

President Tinubu on Monday announced Ayodele Fayose’s appointment as Chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency Board alongside several other appointments into federal agencies and commissions.

The development has attracted attention because the former governor had repeatedly stated that he was not interested in serving in the current administration.

During an interview on Politics Today in October 2025, Fayose revealed that President Tinubu had previously asked if he was interested in a federal appointment, but he declined the offer.

“At my age, I would rather stay at home and focus on other responsibilities. I have served my state twice as governor, and I believe I have made my contribution,” Fayose had said.

Despite that earlier position, the Presidency announced this week that his appointment would take immediate effect.
