A mother of four disappeared while traveling her regular path through the forest to sell food at a nearby market – only for her remains to be discovered in the most horrific circumstances.

The woman, 50-year-old Farida, was walking through Kaumpang, an agricultural province in the Mamuju Regency of West Sulawesi, Indonesia, when a massive snake allegedly attacked her, biting her leg.

The creature then constricted Farida, causing her death, before consuming her entire body, beginning with her head.

The snake was identified as a reticulated python (Malayopython reticulatus), the world’s longest snake species, which can exceed 20 feet in length.

Her husband, Noni, became concerned when he noticed his wife’s absence. As the sun set, he alerted neighbors and, after verifying she had indeed vanished, organized a search party with other residents and officials, reports the Daily Star.

Searchers located a 20-foot python in a forested region the following day and confirmed the tragic outcome.

The snake displayed a massively swollen stomach, prompting the group to cut it open using machetes, where they tragically discovered Farida’s fully clothed body inside the creature, coated in its digestive fluids.

They subsequently covered Farida’s body and transported her away in a disturbing scene captured on video, passing through a large gathering of local villagers.

According to the Daily Mail, Noni expressed the anguish of losing his wife in such an unforeseen manner, stating: “I am forever sorry that I let my wife go out alone. If I had been with her that day, the snake would not have dared to touch her. I feel sorry for the suffering she went through. I am sorry for our family.”

Farida received a funeral service and was buried in the Pitu Riawa district of Sidrap Regency.

The village head, Suardi Rosi, explained that the victim’s husband had been looking for his wife in the neighboring forest after she hadn’t returned home for a day, ultimately discovering the massive snake. The man subsequently managed to capture the creature with assistance from several fellow villagers.

He added that this type of threat isn’t something the community typically worries about, claiming it was the first incident of its kind in the area.

Nevertheless, the last documented instance of a human being consumed by a snake of the same species prior to Farida occurred just two years earlier, in 2022, also in Indonesia. In that case, 54-year-old Jahrah was discovered inside a python two days after being reported missing during a harvesting trip.
