The Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, has directed the military to intensify operations across the Northwest region.
The minister also expressed condolences to victims of the recent terrorist attacks in Bungudu and other communities in Zamfara state.
In a statement issued Sunday by his personal assistant on Media, Ahmed Dan Wudil, Dr. Matawalle said the federal government remains committed to restoring peace and security despite what he described as a recent escalation of attacks in parts of the North west.
The minister specifically directed the leadership of Operation Fansan Yamma to remain steadfast and relentless in the ongoing fight against terrorism, working alongside other security agencies deployed in affected areas.
He further instructed Operation Fansan Yamma and all military formations involved in counter-terrorism operations to scale up efforts in Zamfara, Kebbi, Katsina, Sokoto, and Kaduna states.
The statement said troops were ordered to adopt every lawful and necessary measure to eliminate terrorist activities through surgical operations without mercy.
Senior military commanders overseeing volatile areas were also told to strengthen surveillance and increase patrols aimed at identifying and destroying terrorist hideouts, targets, and safe havens before they can be used to launch further attacks.
