Man Beheaded at UNIJOS Permanent Site, Attackers Flee With Severed Head

A man has been found beheaded at the permanent site of the University of Jos (UNIJOS) in Plateau State, with his severed head reportedly taken away by his attackers.

The gruesome discovery was made on Tuesday, sending shockwaves through the university community.

The university’s Chief Security Officer, Mr. Agama Tangni, confirmed the incident, stating that the victim was not a student or employee of the institution.

“I can confirm that somebody was beheaded here. He is neither a student nor a staff member of the university,” Tangni said.

He explained that the deceased was well known to residents around the campus because he frequently visited the location to farm.

“The identity of the deceased is known because the particular spot where he was beheaded is where he used to come for farming. He usually came there very early in the morning,” he added.

According to Tangni, preliminary findings suggest the victim may have been specifically targeted.

“I don’t know whether the assailants had been monitoring him, but from the look of things, the attackers targeted him, beheaded him and went away with his severed head,” he said.

The victim’s family has been informed, while his remains have been deposited at the Bingham University Teaching Hospital.

Tangni disclosed that the university management had been briefed on the incident and would formally communicate with members of the university community.

“The University of Jos is already aware of the unfortunate incident, and management will issue an official communication through the institution’s platforms,” he said.

As of the time of filing this report, the Plateau State Police Command had yet to release an official statement on the incident.

Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer, Alabo Alfred, were unsuccessful, as his telephone line was switched off.

Meanwhile, security has been reinforced around the university’s permanent site as police and other security agencies continue investigations into the killing.
