Operatives of the Kebbi HISBAH Board have registered and treated 4,058 cumulative cases of immorality and other social vices since the inception of incumbent administration in the state from 2023 to date.
The Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Muhammad Sani Aliyu, gave the statistics at a news briefing on the activities of the ministry.
He said Tuesday that clamour for the creation of the ministry started several years ago, but the present government of Governor Nasir Idris heeded the popular demand, and elevated the erstwhile Religious Affairs Department to a full- fledged ministry.
“The wisdom for its establishment is to improve service delivery in religious matters, enhance peaceful coexistence among adherents of religious faiths.
“The governor consequently appointed dual special advisers on Islamic Affairs and on Christian Matters.
“The ministry is also tasked with the responsibility of addressing the problems of moral decadence and youth waywardness, as well as create a morally sound, educated and religiously conscious society,” the commissioner said.
He added that since the passage of the bill by the state House of Assembly, and assented to by the executive governor, upgrading it to a board, Kebbi HISBAH, has performed remarkably well in carrying out its mandate of cleansing the society.
