The Kano State High Court No. 15 has commenced the trial of Ali Sulaiman Adam, popularly known as Gadon Ƙaya, who is facing charges over the alleged murder of his wife, Maryam Nababa Badamasi.

According to the charge filed by the Kano State government, the defendant allegedly killed his wife before setting fire to the room where her body was found.

When the charges were read in court, Ali pleaded not guilty to all the allegations.

Counsel to the defendant, Lamido Soron, requested time to prepare the defence’s case and also applied for bail on behalf of his client.

The presiding judge adjourned the matter until July 27 to rule on the bail application filed by the defence.

Speaking to journalists after the court session, the state’s prosecuting counsel said the prosecution had concluded preparations to present its witnesses when the trial resumes.
