Veteran actor Sam Neill, internationally acclaimed for his iconic role as Dr. Alan Grant in the Jurassic Park franchise, has died at the age of 78.

His family announced that the celebrated New Zealand actor died suddenly and unexpe2ctedly on Monday in Sydney, Australia, while surrounded by his loved ones. They noted that he passed away peacefully and with the dignity that defined his life.

The family also disclosed that Neill had remained cancer-free following successful treatment for an aggressive form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, which he publicly revealed in 2023.

Born in Northern Ireland in 1947, Neill moved to New Zealand at the age of seven, where he began a distinguished acting career spanning more than five decades.
