Insecurity: Zamfara NDC chair accuses Gov Lawal of betraying promise

Chairman of the National Democratic Coalition (NDC) in Zamfara state, Alhaji Surajo Garba Maikatako, Sunday, accused Governor Dauda Lawal of betraying his 2023 campaign promise to end insecurity in the state.
In a strongly worded public statement issued in Gusau, Maikatako said the governor has failed woefully to protect lives and property, describing his administration’s security record as ‘a pattern of failure.’
He said, “Governor Dauda Lawal, during the 2023 campaign you promised to end insecurity. The people believed you and voted for you with hope. Three years and some months later, that promise remains unfulfilled. Our people are still being killed, kidnapped, and forced to pay ransoms.”
Maikatako condoled with families who lost loved ones in recent attacks in Bukuyum, Gwashi, Maru, Dansadau, Bindi and Kaura Namoda.
He lamented that, major highways, including Gusau–Dansadau and Mayanchi–Anka–Gummi remain death traps where residents pay illegal levies to bandits to survive.
The NDC chairman said no infrastructure achievement can be meaningful when citizens cannot sleep or travel safely.
“You may build roads and issue statements, but if citizens cannot sleep, travel, or bury their dead without fear, those achievements are hollow,” he said.
