Insecurity: Tinubu holds emergency security meeting with Service Chiefs

President Bola Tinubu on Thursday convened a high-level security meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, bringing together the nation’s top military commanders, intelligence chiefs and security advisers to review the country’s security situation.

The closed-door meeting, which lasted more than two hours, was attended by the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar; Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa; Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede; and Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major General Emmanuel Undiandeye.

Others are: Director-General of the State Security Service, SSS, Adeola Ajayi; Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, NIA, Mohammed Mohammed; Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun; and the President’s Special Adviser on Homeland Security, Major General Adeyinka Famadewa (retd.), among other security officials.

Although details of the deliberations were not made public, officials familiar with the meeting said it focused on reviewing the security situation across the country, including ongoing military operations against terrorists, bandits and other criminal elements.

The meeting comes amid renewed concerns over insecurity in parts of the North-West and North-East, where troops have intensified offensives against armed groups.
