INEC Unveils 12 Kwara Gov Candidates for 2027

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the list of 12 governorship candidates and their running mates for the 2027 Kwara State governorship election.

The list was displayed at the commission’s office in Ilorin, the state capital, on Saturday, formally clearing the path for the contest ahead of the general elections.

Leading the pack is the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Yakubu Danladi-Salihu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with Bello Mubarak Salau as his running mate.

Danladi-Salihu emerged winner of the APC primary in May, which was chaired by former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is fielding Bolakale Kawu as its governorship candidate, paired with Fawenu Corlenius (also referred to as Cornelius Fawenu) as running mate.

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has nominated Apaokagi Salahudeen for governor, with Kolawole Thawphic as his deputy.

Apaokagi previously contested the Kwara Central Senatorial District seat in the 2023 general elections.Other parties that submitted candidates include:

Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC): Yinka Ajia — Olayide Olawuyi

Action Peoples Party (APP): Omotoso Bamidele Olaitan — Aremu Toyin Wahab

Action Alliance (AA): Kolo Ezekiel — Olanipekun Ismail Olabode

Action Peoples Movement (APM): Oluwole Tolu — Jaiyeola Motunrayo

National Democratic Party (NDP): Decean Shola Victor Abioye — Issa Salihu

All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA): Sule Ajayi — Afolabi Moses Folorunsho

New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP): Lamidi Isiaka Akanni — Grace Abosede Ogundele

(The first name in each pair is the governorship candidate; the second is the running mate.)

The publication of the candidates marks a key step in preparations for the 2027 governorship election as political parties intensify mobilisation and campaign activities across the state.
