Imo Police Command probes viral video of its officer assaulting man along Owerri-Orlu road

The Imo State Police Command has commenced an investigation right into a viral video circulating on social media displaying an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) ass@ulting a person alongside the Owerri–Orlu Road on October 27, 2026.

ASP Henry Okoye, spokesperson of the command, stated the officer concerned has been recognized as ASP Gabriel Utuh, Team Leader of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) patrol workforce deployed alongside the Owerri–Orlu Road. He talked about that the circumstances surrounding the incident are being totally investigated, and applicable disciplinary measures shall be taken towards any erring officer.

He assured members of the general public that the investigation shall be thorough, neutral, and guided by the rules of accountability and professionalism.

He urged the sufferer to contact the Command’s Complaint Response Unit (CRU) by way of 08148024755 to help with the continuing investigation.
