If you were Igbo or someone else I would have detained you â Nigerian police officer tells motorist during document inspection
A Nigerian police officer has come under scrutiny over an apparent ethnic whistle after he was captured on video allegedly attempting to extort a motorist during a vehicle document inspection.
In the video, the officer is seen examining the motorist’s vehicle documents alongside his driver’s licence. After reviewing the documents, he returns the vehicle papers but keeps hold of the driver’s licence.
When the motorist asks why his licence has not been returned, the officer allegedly makes a hand gesture suggesting he wants money. The officer then tells the man that if he had been Igbo or from another ethnic group, he would have detained him.
The motorist insisted that all his documents are complete and in order. In response, the officer claims that a waybill for the goods being transported is missing, despite the motorist stating that customs duties had already been paid on the items the officer had inspected.
The video has since circulated on social media, with many viewers criticizing the officer’s alleged conduct and his remarks regarding ethnicity. Watch the video below………………………..
